Pilgangoora Prospect
Pilgangoora gold prospect comprises a small – 58 ha Prospecting Licence occurring in the West Pilbara. The Pilgangoora Project is located approximately 80km south south-east of Port Hedland and contains mafic and ultramafic units, adjacent to and along strike of the Lynas Find deposit. The small tenement straddles north-northeast trending Archaean mafic stratigraphy and occurs on the western limb of the Pilgangoora Synclinorium. Small historic gold production from the area warrants further examination by detailed geological mapping and geochemical sampling, and possibly RC drilling.
There is no current gold mining in the area although a a large shallow open cut attests to previous mining by Lynas Gold in the mid to late 1990s. The potential for additional ore at depth is being investigated. Historic production of 635 tonnes at 5.4g/t Au was recorded from the Pilgangoora Mine in the 1930’s. The area contains multiple commodities including gold (Pilgangoora, McPhees, McPhees West & Lynas), tin/tantalum/lithium (Pilganagoora tin), gold/tantalum (McPhees Northwest) and emerald (Pilgangoora, McPhees Hill). Lynas Gold Ltd outlined a moderate gold resource at McPhees immediately east of the Pilgangoora tenement (P45/2513). The reserves reported for the McPhees Mine by Lynas Gold Ltd were 220,354 tonnes @ 2.58g/t Au based on a 1g/t Au cut-off.
